Taylor Maly
Taylor Maly seems to me like a teacher teaching us a lesson. He tries to give the viewers a lesson and in this poem is was about grammar and how we speak it. As he said "We add invisible question marks and 'you know right's" Taylor Maly has a sense of serious-ness and humor to him. But at the end of the poem, the poem actually had meaning to it. And I think the viewers really get that at the end. He uses his speach to inhance the poem.

SlamNation
I like the whole idea of the SlamNation compititions. It looks really fun and i like how the judges are the audience and they are straight foward with what they like and what they don't like. the performers, however, when they recite their poems its as if they are telling a story. When we read the poems it seems so much different than how they perform it. I really didnt expect that. They all seem a bit prechy. The way they perform is almost all the same. Yelling, speaking-fast, last word of the line is the most emphazies. I didnt see a varitey of emotion put with each poet. My favorite was the asian one. He's poems were reallly interedting and I could tell he really loves doing the Spoken Word. I like the sterotypic poem he said. It was funny yet meaningful. Along with the afraican amaerican lady talking about the kids in Afria exicted to raise their hands in class saying tthey know someone dead. It was like.. wow. Anyways i didnt expect the group performances. That was interesting, i would like to see that in person. Its like all these personailities put into one perforance. I like the one that mentioned the cheerleader. i dont kow i found it funny. Alot of the poems had humor which i didn't think it would because alot of the topics they spoke of was serious topics. Over all i like it though, its something I never expected.

Forgiveness- Morton Marcus
I heard the man
before I saw him.
He was kneeling
in an alley
off Broadway
and 45th street
one summer night,
rocking back and
forth, muttering,
"Forgive me!
Forgive me!"
At first, I thought
he was bending
over a dog, then
I thought, no, his grief
is to great: it
must be a child,
and I hurried to help.
There was no dog,
no child. The man
was bending
over his shadow,
pleading with it,
"Forgive me!
Forgive me!"

Barbie Doll- Marge Piercy
Barbie Doll
This girlchild was born as usual
and presented dolls that did pee-pee
and miniature GE stoves and irons
and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy.
Then in the magic of puberty, a classmate said:
You have a great big nose and fat legs.
She was healthy, tested intelligent,
possessed strong arms and back,
abundant sexual drive and manual dexterity.
She went to and fro apologizing.
Everyone saw a fat nose on thick legs.
She was advised to play coy,
exhorted to come on hearty,
exercise, diet, smile and wheedle.
Her good nature wore out
like a fan belt.
So she cut off her nose and her legs
and offered them up.
In the casket displayed on satin she lay
with the undertaker's cosmetics painted on,
a turned-up putty nose,
dressed in a pink and white nightie.
Doesn't she look pretty? everyone said.
Consummation at last.
To every woman a happy ending.

The Sun on a Spring Day..
Barely any shadows.
The sun glistened on my skin
with happiness and a never ending bright future.
The sun never seemed to fade away.
"OH NO!"
Out the door Maxx had ran,
faster and swifter
than a blink of an eye.
Jorge chased after him, Brian and Hailee next.
Edgard had finally snatched him.
Maxx was saved.
I was saved.
A smile towards the camera
to welcome her back.
After a week being locked away
in the mental hospital, my mom is home.
Hard times always got her deeply down.
She didn't know it would pass on
to her naive daughter.
She didn't know. Neither did I.
I didn't know the sun would set.
That the shine would get covered by the
darkness that creeped and stalked the
happiness. Weeks, months, years.
The shadows casted over the smiles
As they ran away from me.
The darkness sweeped over our tracks,
past memories and our upcoming future,
one-by-one, getting picked up and drifted away.
I didn't know he would get taken away,
nor we would all alienate one another.
At once I was, but now I know
I am not going to be saved..
The sun glistened on my skin
with happiness and a never ending bright future.

Cluttered?!
Cluttered can't even describe my closet.
I have what you need and more to spare
but as long as my notebook goes,
I've seem to have lost it somewhere.
I have a flesh-eatting pillow pet,
all green with blood and ooze.
Along with a mountain of teddy bears;
lopisided, colorful, and none I want to lose.
A basket full of tossed shoes,
like a salad or a lost-and found.
I don't even bother to pick it up
since all together its about 10 pounds.
12 belts I've collected
but I wear the same 3.
A panda scarf, bunny ears and a tail
NOT EVEN FOR ME!
47 shirts
BUT I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!
10 black shirts
but I need 20 more to spare!
A cotton candied dress fit for
a bejeweled cupcake queen
stuck between thick winter coats
and a shirt-like thing.
I grab what i need and go
but if this is just my closet
my room you WOULDN'T even want to know.

Favorite Lines Poem*
There’s no easy way to say this: I fell in love.
But I have promises to keep.
So let the sofa be mountains, the carpets be sea ,
There I’ll establish a city for me.
It’s now no wonder the moon in the window seems to have drifted
out a love poem that you used to know by heart
But all they want to do
Is to go the many miles before I sleep.
You don’t think I suffer after I held my pain for so long?
But I have promises to keep.
So let the sofa be mountains, the carpets be sea ,
There I’ll establish a city for me.
It’s now no wonder the moon in the window seems to have drifted
out a love poem that you used to know by heart
But all they want to do
Is to go the many miles before I sleep.
You don’t think I suffer after I held my pain for so long?
But I still have promises to keep…
